- Well, yes I would love it to be obsidian but I found it along a paved path in the dirt near a creek in my neighborhood. It is a "rock out of place" like most of the things I find. That makes them harder to identify. I mentioned to Kirt the research adventure this shard took me on. It has qualities like obsidian and the magnet attracting thing...would iron traces rust? Nickel also attracts, there are others, I just can't recall at the moment.

- Thanks for the friendly greeting, Kevin. It'll take me awhile to find my way around but after I do, I'll share some photos of a few pieces I've collected. We live in Northern Michigan and I get to collect some here, but not quite the way it was when we lived in the Southwest. I'm hoping to make a trip to Bancroft one of these days. I hear the collecting is pretty good and the scenery is even better (smile).
